A modern living room with concrete walls and a black leather sofa, featuring a large, horizontal pink and blue abstract painting of a flock of flamingos on the wall. A woman stands in the doorway in the background.
A close-up, horizontal, expressive painting of a large flock of pink flamingos wading in blue water, rendered with thick, abstract pink and white strokes and paint drips.

The search for flamingoes

“The Search for Flamingoes,” created after my visit to Holbox, Mexico in 2021, captures the fragile beauty and elusive nature of these elegant birds within their serene, protected habitat. As part of the series “This is Nowhere,” the piece reflects the quiet mystery of the Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve where flamingos glide gracefully over shimmering lagoons and mangrove channels, their coral hues flickering like living brushstrokes against the tranquil waters. This work honours the richness of a remote, delicate ecosystem, inviting viewers to contemplate both the magic of nature’s hidden places and the profound stillness found in the search for something wild and beautiful.

A light and bright living room scene with a white sofa and a colorful area rug, featuring the painting of the boy in the blue shirt with a red mask (LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED) hanging above the sofa.
An expressive, vibrant painting of a young boy wearing a blue t-shirt that says LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED and a red eye mask and cape, against a bright yellow background with hearts floating in the top left. The painting has visible brushstrokes and drips.

All you need is love.

All You Need Is Love, part of my Collection “Life Is Better in a Cape” created in 2015, is a deeply personal piece crafted for my children to remind them of the importance of bravery and the universal childhood desire to be a superhero. This painting centres on the symbol of love itself — not as a distant ideal, but as a powerful, living force that encourages courage and kindness, qualities that every child carries within. The collection as a whole serves as a visual storybook, illustrating that while life can be challenging, embracing love and bravery equips us to face those challenges with strength and hope. Through this art, I hope to inspire my children to see that all you really need to become their own kind of hero is love.

Colorful abstract painting of a charging bull mounted on the wall of a bright living room with neutral furniture and warm accents.
An abstract and highly colorful painting of a bull in a charging posture, rendered in thick, expressive strokes of yellow, orange, red, teal, and black against a light, textured background.

Raging

Inspired by another trip to Mexico where the bull dominates the canvas—an eruption of motion and muscle rendered in sweeping strokes of crimson and shadow. There is no matador, no audience, only the raw force of the creature itself, caught in the moment between fury and freedom. The air seems to vibrate with its power, each line pulsing with contained energy, as if the paint itself might break loose from the frame. The art transforms the bull into a symbol of pure instinct, stripping away tradition until what remains is motion made eternal—a portrait not of violence, but of the untamed spirit that defines every living thing that refuses to yield.

Large modern painting of a partially nude torso with black underwear hanging on a white wall above a wooden console in a minimalist living room.

Hip

“Hip” captures the elegant midsection of a woman wearing a black g-string, focusing on the beauty and subtle curves of the human form. This piece celebrates the intimate and delicate details of the body, rendered with a sense of grace and simplicity that draws attention to its natural allure. By isolating this part of the body, the artwork invites viewers to appreciate the strength and femininity found in such quiet moments, transforming an everyday subject into a striking study of shape, shadow, and confidence.

A large, close-up, vertical painting of a woman with black lipstick and eyes closed, touching her temple with her hand, set against a background of dripping pink, blue, and white paint. The painting is mounted on a blue wall above a light gray chair and brass floor lamp.

Sandi with an i

“Sandi with an I” is a contemporary piece from the 'this is nowhere' collection.
Where her dark lips dominate the narrative, commanding attention with their bold presence. The hand reaches upwards, with fingers splayed and dark nails distinctly rendered, as if attempting to shield or contain an emotion just beneath the surface. This gesture of covering reveals a tension between concealment and exposure, creating an intimate dialogue between vulnerability and strength in the composition. The painting’s focus on expression and gesture invites viewers to explore the complexity of emotion that words often cannot express.
