Worlds for Kids — Imagination Without the Naff

Worlds for Kids — Imagination Without the Naff

My process for creating art and stories for children, focused on nurturing imagination and encouraging young minds to break free from boundaries.

When I create worlds for kids, my process begins with a simple idea—a sentence, a name, an interaction—that sparks the imagination.

From there, I craft a character, a challenge, a setting, and a theme designed to invite intrigue, curiosity, learning, and love into the child’s world as they explore the story and illustrations. Every image holds perspective, life, and movement; the characters feel tangible and complex, yet deeply relatable.

I refuse my storytelling to be presumptuous, predictable, or formulaic—instead, it’s courageous and witty, filled with a fierce love that speaks directly to the human heart in ways that many of us have been missing.

If you look deep within the pages and illustrations, there’s always something hidden within the imagery—a repeated detail or playful element that keeps kids engaged on every page and encourages them to dive deeper. To turn the page and to turn bak again.

The direction of the narrative respects the intelligence and emotional depth of young readers, offering them stories that challenge and delight without pandering or simplifying.

My work is in progress but as always, bold, unfiltered creativity that honours the complexity of life and the power of imagination, because nothing I create is ever plain, simple, or naff.
